Boko Haram strikes in Adamawa, butchers 5 on Independence Day
As Nigerians observe Nigeria's 55-year freedom commemoration, residents of Kirchinga, in Adamawa state, are denoting the day in anguish taking after the assault on the town by Boko Haram terrorists, slitting the throats of five inhabitants of the zone in an early morning attack.
The town is the main residence of previous acting legislative leader of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Kirchinga, a town in Madagali Local Government of Adamawa state, which imparts fringe to the feared Sambisa forest, was one of the areas once annexed by Boko Haram guerillas a year ago.
It was however later cleared of terrorists after Boko Haram was steered by Nigerian troops in a counter rebellion operation.
A fleeing resident of the town, Ahmad Musa, in a phone interview, said the insurgents struck the village at around 12:30am on Thursday and began discharging sporadic shots while annihilating down structures, making inhabitants to escape into adjacent hedges.
The resident said the insurgents slaughtered five trapped people, including three women and two men.
