A car bomb blast has killed a Druze pioneer among others and injured dozens more in southwestern Syria, as per an observing group.

Friday's blast on the edges of Suweida killed Sheik Wahid al-Balous, who contradicted both the Syrian government and armed groups fighting against it, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"Sheik Wahid al-Balous was murdered in an auto bomb assault as he was driving on the edges of Suweida city," Rami Abdelrahman, leader of the Syrian Observatory, said.

He said a second car bomb struck near the hospital in the Dahr al-Jabal neighbourhood where the wounded were being taken.

He told AFP new agency the toll from the two attacks had ascended from eight individuals to 26, and that 50 others were injured. Syrian state media affirmed the two impacts furthermore said 26 individuals had been killed, blaming the explosions on anti-government groups.
